戏剧家莫里哀倒在舞台上的故事

　　法国喜剧家莫里哀(1622—1673)为戏剧事业奋斗了20多年，饥饿、劳累、苦恼，使他得了严重肺病。但疾病和痛苦并不能使他停止创作。在他逝世之前，他又写出了一部喜剧《心病者》。

　　这部喜剧无情地嘲讽了伪科学，揭露了那些挂着医生招牌的江湖骗子，和那些轻信骗子的傻瓜。这部喜剧上演时，莫里哀抱病担任剧中的主要角色。他的妻子见他病势严重，劝他不要再登场。但他却说：“这有什么办法呢?假如一天不演出，那50个可怜的弟兄又如何生活呢?”他还是登场演出了。由于他病重，身体已十分衰弱，因此，在演出时不得不经常皱眉和咳嗽。一个真正有病的人，扮演一个喜剧里没病装病的人，这是一幕真正的'悲剧呵。可是观众并不了解莫里哀的病情，还以为他表演得逼真生动，一个劲地鼓掌喝采。

　　就在这最后的一次演出中，他突然大笑一声，接着便晕倒在地。人们把他送到家里，不到四个小时，这个伟大的喜剧作家便逝世了。那是在1673年2月17日。

　　四天以后的一个深夜里，莫里哀被埋葬了。万恶的教会下令禁止为他举行葬礼，可是成千上万的巴黎平民却自动组成送殡队伍，送莫里哀的遗体去安葬。
